Scientific and Technological Cooperation between CCPP and BioRobotic Institute

Casa di Cura Privata del Policlinico and the BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna have signed an agreement for scientific and technological cooperation.

With this agreement, CCPP and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna have launched collaborations on various research lines aimed at conducting joint clinical trials with the use of devices and systems in the field of bio-robotics, neuro-robotics, robotics for motor rehabilitation and biomechanics. These studies will be applied in diagnosis and rehabilitation of people affected by neurological diseases, in analysis of the movement, risk of falling and restoring independence of those at risk.

The two parties have therefore committed to strengthen the relationship between training, research and innovation by using all the resources and competencies available. Research activities under this agreement benefit the great added value of the interdisciplinary teams that involve staff, professors, researchers, undergraduates, research fellows, PhD students and scholarship holders coming from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and neurologists, physiatrists, bioengineers, physiotherapists, neuropsychologists from CCPP.

In addition to human capital, the BioRobotics Institute and CCPP are committed to provide their knowledge and experiences and their state-of-the-art technological equipment for conducting the research. Also a specific roadmap, with a time horizon of three years, has been set up to guide the various lines of research. This agreement also opens up the possibility of participation in scientific programs, competitions and tenders.

The first outcome of the agreement was the development and launch of a Joint Laboratory called “Motion Lab” (Movement Opportunities and Technology Innovations and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory) within Casa di Cura Privata del Policlinico.

NOTE

  • Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna is a special-purpose university with the purpose of promoting higher education and post-university level, continuing education, enhancement and transfer of knowledge and technology to the external context.
  • Within Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, six research institutes are active, including the BioRobotics Institute, which explores the possibility of implementing Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics, machines and advanced systems in the living world. In pursuing its mission, the BioRobotics Institute has reached a considerable number of researchers and resources focused on ICT technologies for health. In particular functional motor and cognitive rehabilitation in the neurological, cardiorespiratory, orthopedic and muscle areas in subjects of all ages and disability levels.
